Polmont Katie Allan Hit And Run Case: Meet Her Mother Linda And Father Stuart Allan

Katie Allan Hit and Run case has again gained media attention after the inquiry is to be held into her death. Also, find out information about her parents. 

According to the BBC, a joint Fatal Accident Inquiry is set to take place regarding the deaths of Katie Allan and William Lindsay, who both died by suicide at Polmont Young Offenders Institution.

Katie was 21 years old, and William was 16 at the time of their deaths, which occurred within months of each other in 2018.

After a five-year wait, the announcement of the inquiry is expected later this week. The families of Katie and William expressed frustration over the prolonged delay in answers.

Katie had taken her own life while serving a sentence for a hit-and-run incident while intoxicated.

Following a series of deaths in Scottish prisons, including the suicides of Katie Allan and William Lindsay, the Scottish government initiated a review into handling deaths in jail.

A tragic ourred in Giffnock, East Renfrewshire, where a young runner, aged 15, was knocked down by a drunk driver who subsequently fled the scene.

After being hit by Allan’s car, the 15-year victim was left unconscious with a head wound from which blood was seeping.

The incident occurred just as he prepared for his higher examinations, resulting in a broken ankle and a fractured eye socket. Eyewitnesses promptly noted down Allan’s registration plate, enabling swift identification.

The driver, Allan, a 20-year-old geography student at Glasgow University, was sentenced to 16 months in jail in March.

Upon sentencing Allan to 16 months in jail, Sheriff David Pender stated that there was no alternative but to impose a custodial sentence.

He emphasized that Allan was intoxicated and should have recognized her driving inability.

Regrettably, Katie was found dead at Polmont Prison near Falkirk. The collision between Allan’s Ford Fiesta and the teenage runner occurred around 9:00 pm on August 10th of the previous year.

The impact was severe enough to tear off the car’s bumper as it swiftly left the scene.

The family of Katie Allan observed the fourth anniversary of her untimely death at Polmont Young Offender’s Institute in 2022. 

Allan’s mother, Linda, from Giffnock, paid tribute to her daughter and made a heartfelt promise never to cease her pursuit for justice.

In a social media post, Allan’s mother, Linda, shared her thoughts on the fourth anniversary of her daughter’s passing.

She revealed that four years ago, the police arrived at their home to deliver the devastating news of Katie’s death.

Linda expressed the profound impact of that moment, which continues to haunt her with paralyzing flashbacks.

However, she also mentioned that she was on holiday with her husband and son, emphasizing that Katie is with them in spirit every day.

“Katie: We remember & love you daily,” she wrote.

Following Allan’s tragic death, her family has tirelessly advocated for justice. In September 2019, the Crown Office decided not to pursue prosecution against the Scottish Prison Service concerning the incident.

Despite these challenges, Katie’s family remains determined in their quest for justice.

The case has now been reopened for inquiries, offering renewed hope that Katie’s family may finally obtain the justice they sought.
