Keefe D, whose real name is Duane Keith Davis, was a gang leader and the uncle of Orlando Anderson, who was allegedly the shooter of Tupac.

The suspect admitted in interviews and his book that he was in the car where the shots came from but never revealed who pulled the trigger.

A grand jury indicted him on Friday, 29 September 2023, after his words revealed new evidence in the case.

Duane “Keffe D” Davis was born in Watts, California, but moved to Compton when his father won massive money at a horse race in Mexico.

His family was the only Black one in their block, and they witnessed the White flight as more Black families moved in.

He had 11 siblings, but two died: one from cancer and the other from gun violence.

Davis also lost his mother to cancer when he was 15. He said he met Suge Knight, the founder of Death Row Records, when he was nine years old.

They grew up in the same neighborhood but became rivals later on.

Keefe D joined the Crips gang when he was young and rose to become a “shot caller” who controlled a nationwide drug empire.

Moreover, he was arrested for drug trafficking in 1985 and spent four years in prison, where he said he became more ruthless and violent.

The self-described gangster exited prison in 1989 and resumed his criminal activities.

Duane “Keffe D” Davis planned to kill Shakur, who was signed to Death Row Records, as revenge for an earlier altercation.
