 Ken Block is a beloved rally driver and pioneer of extreme sports. Block, known for his high-octane stunts and precision driving skills, died in a tragic snowmobile accident on January 2, 2023.

According to the Wasatch County Sheriff’s Office, Block was crushed by his snowmobile in an accident and passed away there and then.

At about 2:00 pm, Block was riding on a steep hill in the Mill Hollow region west of Woodland, Utah, when his snowmobile “upended, falling on top of him,” according to authorities. Block was traveling with a group but was alone when the event occurred. He was declared dead at the site.

The Hooligan Racing Division announced Block’s death in Utah on Tuesday (AEDT). Block had just returned from a family vacation in the snow, which he documented on Instagram.

Born in 1967 in Long Beach, California, Block was introduced to motorsports at a young age and quickly developed a passion for racing. He began his career in rallycross and gymkhana events; by 2009, he was a full-time professional rally driver. 

In addition to his racing career, Block was also an entrepreneur and co-founder of Hoonigan Industries, a clothing and lifestyle brand for motorsports enthusiasts.

Block’s untimely death has sent shockwaves throughout the motorsports community, and his friends and fans are devastated by the news. All those who knew him will mourn him dearly, and his contribution to extreme sports will never be forgotten.

His family and wife have been devastated by the news of his death since he had just returned from a family vacation in the snow, where he shared family photographs on Instagram.

In July 2004, he married Lucy Block. They are the parents of three children. He was previously married to Tracy Montgomery, a writer, in 1999. He tied for third place in the X Games XIV rally competition with Dave Mirra.

“Merry Christmas from the Blocks, from Baldface Lodge!” he posted barely five days before Christmas.

“It was an unbelievable Christmas vacation, from the magnificent snow to the incredible hospitality of Jeff Pensiero and his family, to watching Jamie Lynn scale the rafters to place the star on the tree, to watching my kids grow stronger and better at shredding.

He advertised the final episode of a series following Lia’s restoration of a 1985 Audi Quattro just hours before his death.

In other recent posts, Block was seen riding snowmobiles in Idaho. “It was my first day on my new 2023 Ski-Doo Summit X Turbo, and this thing rips!” he said on his Facebook page. “Lots of power up in the mountains and wheelies all day.
