According to ABC, Allan was on mental health leave following a publicized split from her partner and former Radio New Zealand presenter named Māni Dunlop.

Apart from her mental health, Kiri Allan has also dealt with other issues. In April 2021, it was announced that Allan would take a medical break from parliament after being diagnosed with stage 3 cervical cancer.
Not to mention, Cervical cancer is the development of unconventional cells in the lining of the cervix and the most common cervical cancer is squamous cell carcinoma.
After the announcement, Allan received tons of messages and support from people. In December 2021, Allan announced that after treatment, she was cancer-free.

According to a report given by the Guardian, Kiri was involved in the crash shortly after 9 pm on Sunday in Wellington. It has been said that Kiri was detained at the central police station.
Following her arrest, Allan was charged with careless use of a motor vehicle and refusing to accompany a police officer. Also, she has been summoned to appear in court at a later date.
The same report has claimed that Allan was handed an infringement notice for extra breath alcohol between 250mcg and 400mcg.
