Kristi Noem Family: Ethnicity & Origin

Kristi Noem was born on November 30, 1971, in Watertown, South Dakota, to Ron and Corinne Arnold. She has Norwegian ancestry and is proud of her Scandinavian heritage. 

She was raised on a ranch and farm in rural Hamlin County, where she learned the values of hard work, perseverance, and responsibility.

She graduated from Hamlin High School in 1990 and was crowned South Dakota Snow Queen that year. She married Bryon Noem in 1992 and they have three children: Kassidy, Kennedy, and Booker.

They live in Castlewood, South Dakota, where they run their family businesses, including a hunting lodge and restaurant. 

Noem’s father was killed in a farm machinery accident in 1994 when she was 22 years old and eight months pregnant with her first child.
