The father of Ireland’s current leader, Ashok Varadkar, is a Hindu doctor who was born in Mumbai, India. He moved to the United Kingdom in the 1960s.

While working and living in the UK, Ashok Varadkar met Leo’s mother, Miriam Varadkar, an Irish nurse, in England. The couple tied the knot in 1971 in the UK.

The politician’s parents moved to Ireland in 1973 and settled in Dublin. Varadkar has two sisters, Sonia and Sophia.
