Officials have reported that a traffic accident on Friday resulted in the deaths of two students from Passaic County.
Along with Liam Pakonis, another student named Christian Enrico also passed away.
Enrico, who was a junior at the school and had five siblings, was 17 years old, according to his obituary.
The president of the Wayne Board of Education, Donald Pavlak Jr., expressed his condolences for the tragic loss of the two students.
In a statement posted on TapIntoWayne, he described it as a tragedy that has deeply affected the entire school community.

Liam Pakonis, a high school student at Wayne Hills HS, lost his life on Friday. Another student named Chris Enrico also died with him.
Principal Michael Rewick stated that the boys will always be remembered as Patriots.
He emailed parents of high school students on Sunday to express his condolences to the entire school community and offer counseling services to grieving people.
The news of the accident has deeply affected everyone, as stated by Rewick in the email. The school has also arranged to counsel students requiring support.
A counselor will be available at the high school located at 272 Berdan Avenue from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. from Monday to Wednesday, and no appointment is necessary.

Officials from Wayne Hills High School have reported that two teenagers from the local area lost their lives in a car accident on Friday.
Liam Pakonis was one of the students killed in a car crash over the weekend. His friends and family are grieving at this moment.
As per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), motor vehicle accidents are the leading cause of teenage deaths in the United States.
In 2019, 2,375 teenagers between 13 and 19 died in motor vehicle crashes. Of those, 1,140 were drivers, and 1,235 were passengers.
Furthermore, data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) indicates that the risk of motor vehicle crashes is higher among teenagers.
In 2019, the fatal crash rate per mile driven for 16 to 19-year-olds was nearly three times higher than for drivers aged 20 and older.
While overall motor vehicle crash rates have declined in recent years, teenage drivers are disproportionately represented in fatal crashes.
Factors such as inexperience, distracted driving, speeding, and not using seat belts are among the leading causes of fatal crashes involving teenagers.

Township Councilwoman Fran Ritter posted a message on social media expressing her condolences after the news of the crash circulated.
She offered prayers to the families, classmates, teachers, coaches, and all those who knew and loved the two teenagers.
Ritter also mentioned that both of the teenagers were classmates of her children and that Liam was a teammate of her son on the Wayne Hills Swim Team.
The entire Patriot community is grieving and sorry for the loss, as stated by Ritter. At present, details about the incident, such as its location, have not been available.
