Connor James Sturgeon was the perpetrator of a mass shooting on August 2, 2021, at the Old National Bank in Louisville, Kentucky.
Sturgeon, a 25-year-old employee of the bank, fatally shot four people and injured several others before being killed by police.
Before the shooting, Sturgeon had worked at the bank as a syndications associate and portfolio banker since June 2021, according to his LinkedIn account. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear.
He started his attack around 8:30 a.m. during a morning meeting for some employees. Sturgeon was described as “extremely intelligent” by a bank manager who watched the meeting virtually.

Sturgeon, the perpetrator of the Old National Bank shooting, grew up in Louisville and graduated from Floyd Central High School in Indiana. He was a basketball player during his time there.
His father, Todd Sturgeon, was the head basketball coach at the high school and was hired when Connor was a sophomore. Todd resigned from the school in 2022 to spend more time with Connor and his younger brother.
According to his father, Todd Sturgeon, Connor was a finance major and a basketball enthusiast.
He later earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees at the University of Alabama. Todd Sturgeon was also the former University of Indianapolis’ men’s basketball team coach.
There has been minimal information shared about his family in public; after the shooting, his family has asked for privacy and has kept a low profile.
As per provided information, the shooter wrote a note to his parents and close friends indicating that hoping to fire in the back.
None of his close family members or friends hoped to see him shot inside the bank, which caused nine injuries, and four of them were dead.
