She was born on October 12, 1974, in Labac, a town in the Cachar district of Barak Valley. She was born to Dwipendra Lal Moitra and Manjoo Moitra. She comes from a family of Bengali Hindu Brahmins and has a sister. 

Mahua Moitra was previously married to Lars Brorson, a Danish financier. However, the couple later got divorced. Further details about the reasons for their divorce or any other information about their relationship are not publicly known.

Mahua Moitra Political Career Details Explored

Moitra’s political career has been marked by her vocal opposition to the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its policies. 

After leaving her job as a vice president at JPMorgan Chase in London in 2009, Mahua Moitra entered politics in India. She joined the Indian Youth Congress, the youth section of the Indian National Congress Party. 

During her time with the Party, she became a trusted advisor of Rahul Gandhi on the project “Aam Aadmi Ki Sipahi.” Later, in 2010, she joined the All India Trinamool Congress Party.

In 2016, Moitra contested in the Legislative Assembly elections from Karimpur district in Nadia district of West Bengal and was elected. 

She went on to become a member of parliament in the 17th Lok Sabha from Krishnanagar, West Bengal.
