Ukrainian skeleton racer Vladyslav Heraskevych announced the sad news on Twitter, noting that Galinichev passed away on March 10.

According to Karim Zidan of Bloody Elbow, Galinichev’s death brings three combat athletes killed in the ongoing Ukrainian struggle against the Russian invasion to three.

Maksym is not the only boxer from Ukraine who helped defend his nation against Russian invasion; shortly after the war started, Wladimir Klitschko enlisted in the Ukrainian Military Forces as a reservist in the Territorial Defense Brigade.

Team GB Boxing posted on Twitter that it was heartbroken to learn of the untimely death of Maksym Galinichev, the 22-year-old Ukrainian and European Youth champion.

Vladyslav Heraskevych, a fellow Olympian, praised Galinichev for giving his life to defend Ukraine and added, “Hail to hero.”

One Twitter user praised Maksym Galinichev as a hero and thanked him for using his life and strong soul to help Ukraine win. Another added that Maksyma is a real hero who gave his life to preserve freedom and be remembered. Also, the user sent his sincere sympathies to his family and friends.

Galinichev is thought to have died in the Luhansk region of Ukraine, and his daughter, age 3, is his only surviving child.
