The professional footballer was the leading goal-scorer in his school’s team and played up front until he was 14 years old. He began his youth career at Atlético Madrid in 2003 when he was 13 years old.

When David was 13, his then-coach lied to Atlético Madrid, claiming that Royo Vallecano was about to sign him. However, Atlético Madrid quickly signed him at the moment.

He joined Manchester United in 2011 and has since made almost 200 appearances, winning the Premier League winner’s medal in 2013.

David De Gea was born to his parents, Jose De Gea And Marivi Quintana.

The footballer was born on November 7, 1990, in Madrid, Spain but was raised nearby Illescas, a town in Toledo. The star spent most of his childhood there, alongside his parents. 

Jose De Gea, his father, is a former Getafe goalkeeper, while his mother is a cleaner. His father was well-known for his excellent saves.

As a result, being born into a sporting family, David has always enjoyed athletics, and his mother values sports and academics.

De Gea explained, “My mother would call two, three, or four times a week.” She has always expressed concern for me. She was always concerned about how I balanced my education and sports.

“My parents would drive 50 kilometers a day just to see me at Atletico’s training ground in the affluent neighborhood of Alarcon.” 

Because of his family’s financial situation, he began his football career in one of Spain’s greatest youth systems.

De Gea began his career at La Escuela De Futbol Atletico Casarrubuelos, where he also played for his high school teams.

He played every position at the time. David’s former coach stated, “Years into his youth career, De Gea was an outfield player until 14 before converting to a goalkeeper.”
