Mario and his wife, Rebecca, celebrated their 30th anniversary this year and have been together for 36 years.

According to Dailymail, The South Sydney Rabbitohs legend suffers from memory loss and has the brain of an 80-year-old after being diagnosed with early-onset dementia seven years ago.

Following his diagnosis, Mario has advanced chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a progressively debilitating brain condition caused by repeated blows to the head and consistent episodes of concussion.

In 2016, the rugby forward revealed that he was suffering from early onset dementia, which he believes would result from years of head knocks and concussions during his rugby career.

Sources claim Mario had lost most of his memory of his playing career by 2022.

Their son Joe revealed how the entire family had therapy before Fenech was given his heartbreaking diagnosis. 

Despite his deteriorating memory, Fenech can still recall being bullied and called a ‘wog’ at school, which motivated him to be good at rugby league.

The wife of former rugby league tough man Mario Fenech has told how former television colleagues have lost touch and abandoned him in the wake of his devastating illness.

His wife believes the show made fun of him despite being aware of his health condition and revealed that just three ex-Footy Shows remain in occasional contact with him.

The 53 years old rugby champ was living in the Botany region of Sydney during his childhood. His family believed he had the potential to become a great footballer and that his junior team, the Botany Rams.
