Vinesh Phogat comes from a successful wrestling family; all her sisters have won medals at the Commonwealth Games and competed internationally.

She has four sisters: Geeta Phogat, Babita Kumari Phogat, Ritu Phogat, and Sangita Phogat.

Gita Phogat

Gita Phogat is the first female wrestler from India to win a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games and earn Olympic qualification. 

In 2002, Geeta started her career as a wrestler, and she rapidly became one of the best in India. She won her first significant gold medal at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, India.

Geeta, who competed in the 55 kg division at the 2012 London Olympics, was also the first female wrestler from India to earn a spot in the Games.

Babita Kumari Phogat

Like her sisters, Babita has won many Asian championship medals, including a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games. 

She started her wrestling career in 2006 and has since competed for India in numerous international competitions.

Not to mention, in the 51 kg division, she took home a silver medal from the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi. 

Additionally, Babita won the gold medal in the 55 kg division at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Ritu Phogat

Ritu started her wrestling career in 2010 and rapidly became one of the best in India.

She captured a gold medal at the 2016 Commonwealth Wrestling Championship in Singapore, her first significant achievement.

She also earned a gold medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia.

Ritu made her professional debut in MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) in 2019 after leaving the world of professional wrestling.

Sangita Phogat

Sangita, the youngest Phogat sister, competes in wrestling at national and international levels.

She started her wrestling career in 2015 and has participated in several national and international competitions.

She has garnered several medals at the National and Junior National Wrestling Championships.

The Phogat sisters established the Indian tradition of women’s wrestling.

These sisters have all succeeded in Indian wrestling thanks to their Father, Mahavir Singh Phogat’s training.

The life of Mahavir Singh Phogat and his daughters was the inspiration for the well-known Bollywood film “Dangal,” which included a segment on the family.

Vinesh Phogat Accuses WFI Chief Of Sexual Harassment 

Vinesh Phogat and Sakshi Malik, two India’s most esteemed female wrestlers trending recently.

They have accused BJP MP and Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) head Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh of sexual harassment.

To speak on behalf of the allegedly exploited female wrestlers to the media, the athletes staged a dharna at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi.

Vinesh said that coaches and the WFI president Brij Bhushan Sharan had sexually harassed female wrestlers at national camps.

Some national camp coaches have a history of harassing female wrestlers sexually. Additionally, the WFI president is complicit in sexual harassment.
