Meryl Streep doesn’t have any illness and is in good health. Also, the Hollywood star never suffered from an obstetric fistula.

As mentioned earlier, the New Jersey-born performer narrated a movie. The historical documentary centered on women – Sierra Leone and Malawi – suffering from obstetric fistula.
Although it has been several years since Meryl narrated the movie, people still wonder what moved Hollywood’s A-lister to support the awareness campaign.
Some people seem to have misunderstood that the actress also suffers from the condition. But, it is false. Streep doesn’t have an obstetric fistula.
As reported by News24, obstetric fistulas are holes that form between the rectum and the vagina (rectovaginal fistulas) or between the bladder and the vagina (vesicovaginal fistulas), respectively.
The condition develops from prolonged obstructed labor, during which the mother does not get the proper care or attention.

In an interview, the multiple Oscar winner talked about it. While referring to the film as a “powerful film,” Streep said it attests to the igniting power of one woman, Ann Gloag.
According to the star, it shows the power of Gloag to set in motion hundreds of helping hands, physicians, nurses, caregivers, friends, and family to revive the health and status of fistula patients and to give them back their life.
Streep responded to Health24 when asked if she knew of other such programs in Africa. “I am unable to comment more particularly about other projects in Africa, but I am happy that I was able to highlight Gloag’s achievements and encourage others to follow in her footsteps,” said the Actress.

Meryl applauded the ongoing efforts of African healthcare professionals, saying: “I constantly am amazed by the perseverance of underserved individuals and the commitment of medical professionals like yourself on their behalf.”
The movie was produced in partnership with Ann Gloag’s Freedom From Fistula Foundation.
The foundation helps women by offering free maternity care to prevent fistulas and ensure safe childbirth and training to local healthcare professionals.
At that time, the filmmakers noted that around two million African women suffer from obstetric fistula and over 500K die yearly during pregnancy or childbirth. But 80% of these death are entirely avoidable.
According to the UN Population Fund, obstetric fistula can be avoided by delaying the age of the first pregnancy, family planning to spacing births, and providing emergency obstetric treatment to pregnant women.
