Mhairi Black is a Scottish politician who serves as the Deputy Leader of the Scottish National Party (SNP) in the House of Commons.

She has been the Member of Parliament (MP) for Paisley and Renfrewshire South since 2015 after defeating Labour Party shadow foreign secretary Douglas Alexander. In 2017 and 2019, the politician returned to office.

When she was elected to the House of Commons in May 2015 at the age of 20 years and 237 days, she became the youngest MP to do so since the Reform Act of 1832.

The previous record-holder, William Wentworth-Fitzwilliam, was 20 years and 11 months old.

From 2015 to 2019, Black was the House’s youngest member. Black is still the youngest MP for the SNP. Black declared on July 4th, 2023, that she would not seek reelection as a member of parliament.

The popular MP Mhairi Black does not suffer from any physical illness in 2023. However, her struggles with her health surfaced in the media back in July 2018.

Her health was suffering as a result of the demanding job, long hours, and frequent travel.

Since members of parliament frequently need to travel from one location to another quickly and efficiently, air travel is often used.

However, long flights can be unhealthy because the body is subjected to higher pressurized air.

Additionally, the deputy leader of the SNP has frequently spoken out about her health issue after receiving criticism for only having cast five votes since being re-elected in June 2017.

The youngest MP attributed having one of the worst voting records at Westminster following the general election to stomach problems and the norovirus, according to The Herald.

Mhairi Black Health Update In 2023

Mhairi Black currently has no physical health issues, as mentioned above. As health difficulties cannot be an excuse for the work she is assigned, the SPN politician has been feeding herself well to work more productively in the field.

However, the MP has suffered an extreme mental toll due to her work. As a result, the SNP MP elected at age 20 resigned due to the negative impact of Westminster’s toxic culture on her “body and mind.”

Black claimed Westminster to be one of the most unhealthiest workplaces one could ever encounter.

Since the politician mentioned the mental toll she had been feeling from her work, the series of incidents at Westminister has forced her to call it quits.

The deputy leader of the SNP in the Commons announced her resignation from politics.

The reason behind her leaving was Westminster’s “toxic” and “poisonous” atmosphere as the cause of her mental health problems.

She admitted that she had trouble trusting people from other parties and that the idea of serving as an MP for nearly a third of her life by the time of the next election gave her “the ick.”
