Michael Schumacher was born on January 3, 1969, in the West German town of Hurth, North Rhine-Westphalia, to working-class parents Elisabeth and Rolf Schumacher, a bricklayer who later managed the local kart track.

At age four, Schumacher’s father adapted his pedal kart by putting a tiny motorcycle engine in it.

His parents brought him to the karting track at Kerpen-Horrem where he became the club’s youngest member after Michael crashed it into a lamppost in Kerpen.

In the French Alps, above Méribel, on December 29, 2013, Schumacher was skiing with his son Mick, then 14 years old, down the Combe de Saulire.

He fell and hit his head on a rock while traversing an exposed off-piste region between Piste Chamois and Piste Mauduit, suffering a severe head injury despite wearing a ski helmet.

His medical professionals believe that he would have most likely passed away if he had not been wearing a helmet.

Michael endured two surgical procedures after being airlifted to a hospital in Grenoble. Traumatic brain injury led to a medically forced coma of the former F1 racer.

Schumacher departed the Grenoble Hospital in June 2014 to continue his recovery at the Lausanne University Hospital in Switzerland.

Michael was discharged from the hospital in September 2014 and taken home to continue his rehabilitation.

Similarly, the former german racer was reported as “paralyzed and in a wheelchair,” “unable to talk, and having memory issues” two months later.

According to Schumacher’s manager Sabine Kehm, his health was gradually getting better “considering the severity of the injury he had” in May 2015.
