According to Berrien County sheriff’s officials, David Lee Mabry, 60, was reportedly discovered unconscious in his detention cell on Tuesday, June 20, at 12:45 pm.
The jail staff and ambulance team tried to save his life, but they failed. According to the deputies, there was no obvious evidence of trauma, and an autopsy will be done.
Deputies stated that Mabry had “previous medical conditions,” although authorities did not specify if these were thought to be a factor in his demise. Michigan State Police have requested an inquiry into the deceased.

David Lee Mabry Arrest Charges: What Actually Happened?
David Lee Mabry was charged with open murder in connection with a fatal shooting on June 18 in the Baroda Township of Berrien County. He was charged in the death of his stepmother Mary Mabry.
According to many local media outlets, he was detained shortly after her death on Sunday and was charged on Monday. Additionally, he was accused of one count of having a gun while committing a crime.
According to South Bend-based CBS/Fox affiliate WSBT, the now-deceased defendant pulled out a handgun and shot and killed his younger stepmother.
She was sitting on her patio at the family home on Russell Road in Baroda Township, a small village close to the Indiana border, without any provocation at all.
The woman’s husband reportedly disarmed the shooter after the incident before he departed the scene in a car.
The defendant told police he went to his father’s house to get some cats he had left there, according to court documents acquired by WSBT.
He apparently received word that the cats had vanished and their pen had been destroyed. Mary allegedly denied being responsible for breaking the cats’ pen, which incensed David.
The victim allegedly reached for the gun when the attacker raised his, according to David Mabry, who claimed in WSBT, quoting the court document. She received a headshot.
