Natalie Maines, the lead singer of the country-pop group The Chicks (formerly known as the Dixie Chicks), has been the target of a death hoax that circulated on social media in December 2023.

The hoax claimed that Maines had died of a heart attack at the age of 48, leaving behind her two sons and her ex-husband, actor Adrian Pasdar.

The death hoax originated from a fake news website that mimicked the design and logo of CNN.

The website published an article with the headline “Dixie Chicks Found Dead in Car Crash” on December 15, 2023.

The article claimed that Maines, Emily Strayer, and Martie Maguire had died in a collision with a semi-truck on Interstate 40 near Nashville, Tennessee.

The article also included a photo of a wrecked car and a video of a CNN reporter announcing the news. However, the article was completely fabricated and had no basis in reality.

The photo of the car was taken from a different accident that occurred in 2019, and the video was edited from an old CNN report about another celebrity’s death.

The website that published the article was registered only a few days before and had no affiliation with CNN or any other credible news source.
