Martin Maldonado Parents: A Mystery and a Miracle

Martin Maldonado was born on August 16, 1986, in Naguabo, Puerto Rico. His mother, Valdes, raised him and his two older brothers, Carlos and Aldes, alone.

She worked as a nurse and a teacher and also played softball. She greatly influenced Martin’s baseball career, teaching him how to catch and encouraging him to pursue his dream.

Martin’s father, however, was never part of his life. According to his grandmother, his father was also an amateur baseball player, but neither he nor his family ever revealed who he was

Martin has never met or talked to him, and does not know if he is still alive. He has also denied any relation to Candy Maldonado, a former MLB outfielder from Puerto Rico.

Martin’s mother suffered a life-threatening health crisis in 2012 when she had an aneurysm that caused her to lose consciousness and be hospitalized for 23 days.

She underwent several surgeries and had to learn how to walk and talk again. Martin was playing for the Milwaukee Brewers at the time, and he flew back to Puerto Rico to be with her.

He credits her recovery as a miracle and says she is his hero.

Martin Maldonado Family: Ethnicity and Origin

Martin’s ethnicity is Puerto Rican, which means that he is a descendant of the native Taíno people, as well as the Spanish colonizers and enslaved Africans who arrived on the island.

Puerto Rico is a U.S. territory with its own culture, language, and identity. Martin grew up speaking Spanish and learning about his heritage.

Martin’s family is very supportive of his baseball career. He is married to Janelise Maldonado, whom he met in high school.

They have two children: a son named Martincito, and a daughter named Janeliz. They live in Florida during the offseason but also travel with Martin wherever he plays.

Martin says that his wife and kids are his motivation and inspiration. Martin is also very proud of his Puerto Rican roots.

He has represented his country in several international tournaments, including the World Baseball Classic and the Caribbean Series.

He has also participated in charity events and relief efforts for Puerto Rico, especially after Hurricane Maria devastated the island in 2017.
