In 2014, Dobson left his home in PEI to attend Bishop’s College School in Lennoxville, Quebec, where he was recruited to join their hockey team.

Despite considering moving to Toronto and joining the Don Mills Flyers of the Greater Toronto Hockey League, he eventually opted to join the EC Red Bull Salzburg academy in Austria.

He spent a season with the academy, living with former NHL player Brian Savage, whose son was also a team member.

After his time in Austria, Dobson returned to Canada to continue his hockey career. His experience living and playing in a foreign country undoubtedly broadened his perspective and honed his skills, contributing to his development as a player.
