The Stelenbosch football club confirmed Oshwin Andries’ death via a statement. The 19-year-old soccer player died on Saturday, 4 February 2023.

Although the death cause has not been made official, local news media reported that the midfielder was stabbed fatally.
While expressing their sadness, the football club wrote that it had learned of the untimely passing of a promising young defender.
The club disclosed that they could not share further information and asked to respect the late player’s family’s privacy.
“His presence will be greatly missed, both on and off the field. Everyone at Stellenbosch F.C. is praying for his loved ones,” the statement continued.

Early tributes to the 19-year-old soccer player came from Grant Nieuwenhuys, his agent, teammate, and club captain Deano Van Rooyen.
Lee Langeveldt, a teammate, tweeted, “Till we meet again,” along with a picture of Andries. Dean Van Rooyen, a defender for Stellenbosch, also paid respect to the young player.
While wishing peace to Oswin Andreies, Grant Nieuwenhuys (the agency) sent their thoughts and prayers to his family, friends, and Stellenbosch football club.
They added, “It’s a sad day for the Western Cape. From each and everyone aligned to GN Sports Agency. Only God Knows.”

Oshwin Andries Made His PSL Debut At 18
Oshwin Andries was born in Stellenbosch. The young player must have grown up with his family and had a happy childhood.
He attended Cloetesville High School and graduated from the SFC Academy shortly after. Soon after, he joined the Stellenbosch first-team squad.
The Stellenbosch native made his South African Premier Soccer League (PSL) debut against Baroka at 18 in December 2021.
He scored against Royal AM in August, just days after making his first Stellenbosch start, which earned Andries the Man of the Match award against domestic powerhouse Orlando Pirates, to become the youngest-ever top-flight goalscorer.
Andries, who is highly regarded, last played for the team on 27 January when Stellenbosch defeated Cape Town City 3-2. He played the whole game.
The versatile soccer player led South Africa in international competition during the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. The 19-year-old won Man of the Match honors in a 5-2 triumph against Namibia in October.
