During this time, she formed a street group called Trickster alongside Soozie Tyrell and Lisa Lowell, performing on the streets and in small venues.

Scialfa’s big break finally came when she could play at iconic venues such as Folk City, Kenny’s Castaways in Greenwich Village, and The Stone Pony in Asbury Park, New Jersey. 

She briefly joined the House band Cats on a Smooth Surface at The Stone Pony. These gigs caught the attention of industry professionals and eventually led to recording opportunities with Southside Johnny and David Johansen.
