Bento’s Contract With South Korea Included FIFA World Cup 2022

Bento was appointed manager of the South Korean national team on August 17, 2018, & his contract included the 2022 World Cup.

The team lost to eventual champions Qatar 1-0 in the quarterfinals of the 2019 AFC Asian Cup in the United Arab Emirates.

After defeating Japan 1-0, Bento guided his squad to the 2019 EAFF E-1 Football Championship. This was their third tournament victory and second straight triumph against those opponents.

The Bento-led Taegeuk Warriors qualified for the nation’s tenth straight World Cup on February 1, 2022, with a 2-0 victory away against Syria.

He received a booking for dissent against Uruguay in the group stage on November 23 at the finals in Qatar, which ended in a scoreless draw.

After losing 0-1 to Albania at home to start the Euro 2016 qualifying series on September 11, 2014, the Portuguese Football Federation announced Bento had been fired.
