When Bagnaia suffered a tremendous high side and was propelled remarkably high into the air off his Ducati, he led the field going out of Turn 2 at Barcelona. He continued to spin around as he landed.
The KTM of Brad Binder appeared to run over Bagnaia’s legs when the reigning champion swerved directly into his path, but thankfully the remainder of the field managed to avoid him.
In the wake of the incident, Bagnaia was transported by ambulance to the medical center for a checkup before being diverted to Hospital General de Catalunya.
According to the official MotoGP website, MotoGP’s medical director Angel Charte informed Spanish network DAZN that Bagnaia had suffered many injuries from the encounter but that the initial x-rays had only revealed “a small injury” that couldn’t be definitively connected to this incident.
Pecco Bagnaia Injury And Health Update
Bagnaia went to the hospital for a CT scan despite being “conscious and oriented” following the collision, according to Charte, who also noted that “it is difficult to be sure there is no fracture”.
Sadly, that was the race’s second significant crash in as many turns, which is remarkable.
Enea Bastianini, a teammate who rides for Ducati, rode a very aggressive inside line into the first turn and ran out of room with Johann Zarco, another Ducati racer, who was ahead.
Not only were Bastianini and Zarco involved in the incident, but also three other Ducati riders, including Alex Marquez and Fabio Di Giannantonio of Gresini Ducati and Marco Bezzecchi of VR46 Ducati.
Bastianini was also transported to the hospital after being taken to the medical center, albeit on a scooter rather than in an ambulance, due to possible ankle and hand fractures.
It follows that neither of the Ducati works machines restarted.
