Edson Arantes do Nascimento, better known as Pelé, is a Brazilian former footballer.

He scored 77 goals in 92 appearances, becoming the highest goal scorer for the Seleção Canarinho.

Pele is one of the most famous and celebrated footballers with three FIFA World Cup trophies (1958, 1962, and 1970), the only player with this feat.

He played as a forward and scored 1,279 goals in 1,363 games, registering a Guinness World Record.

At the club level, Pele primarily played for Santos (1956–1974) and spent two years at New York Cosmos (1975–1977).

Pele Death And Obituary: Has Football Legend Died Of Cancer? 

Pele is not dead; his death news is nothing but a hoax. However, he is known to be battling Cancer and undergoing chemotherapy.

Likewise, he was recently diagnosed with a respiratory infection. Nevertheless, he is stable at a Sao Paulo hospital.

After ESPN Brasil reported that Pele had been admitted to Hospital Albert Einstein with “general swelling” and cardiac issues, fans were concerned.

Reports were that his chemotherapy treatment did not have the expected effect, but his daughter Kelly assured him there was “no emergency.”

Pele thanked fans and well-wishers for sending “good vibes” and stated it was a routine monthly visit.

Likewise, a statement from the hospital said Pele was being treated with antibiotics and that “the response has been adequate…with a general improvement in health status.”

The three-time World Cup winner will stay in the hospital for the next few days.

Born on October 23, 1940, the Brazilian legend is currently 82 years old. 

Pele Has Had Some Health Concerns Over The Years

Pele has had some health issues over time. In 1977, Brazilian media reported that he had his right kidney removed. Later, in 2012, he underwent a successful hip operation.

Likewise, he appeared in a wheelchair at the 2018 FIFA World Cup draw in Moscow, Russia. He collapsed from exhaustion a month later and was rushed to the hospital.

In 2019, Pele suffered a urinary tract infection and underwent surgery to remove kidney stones.

Likewise, in February 2020, his son Edinho shared that Pele could not walk independently. A lack of rehabilitation after his hip operation made him reluctant to leave home.

In September 2021, Pele underwent another surgery to remove a tumor on his colon’s right side.

Although his daughter Kelly said he was “doing well,” he was told to be readmitted to intensive care a few days later before being released on September 30 to start chemotherapy.

Pelé was born Edson Arantes do Nascimento in Três Corações, Minas Gerais, Brazil, to his parents Dondinho and Celeste Arantes. 

His Father, Dondinho, a.k.a. João Ramos do Nascimento, was a footballer and played for Fluminense.

Pele was the elder of two siblings, with a younger brother named Zeca Nascimento. 

His real name, Edson, was inspired by American inventor Thomas Edison. He was also nicknamed “Dico” by his family.

He later received the nickname “Pelé” in school because of the way he pronounced the name of his favorite local player, Vasco da Gama goalkeeper Bilé.

In his autobiography, he wrote that he or his friends had no idea what the name meant. The name is also thought to mean “miracle” in Hebrew but has no meaning in local Portuguese.

Pele grew up poor in Bauru in São Paulo and made extra money by working as a servant in tea shops.

His dad taught him to play football, but he usually played with a sock stuffed with newspaper because he could not afford a proper ball.

Pele has several children from three marriages and other affairs. They include Edinho, Kelly Cristina, Joshua, Celeste, and Flavia.
