Raymond Sawada was a former Canadian professional ice hockey player. He was born on February 19, 1985, in Richmond, British Columbia, Canada, and sadly passed away on 10th April 2023, in the same place.

Raymond played college hockey at Cornell University from 2004 to 2008, where he majored in Applied Economics and Management. In 2004, he was selected in the second round of the NHL Entry Draft (52nd overall) by the Dallas Stars.

Sawada played for several teams during his professional career, including the Texas Stars and the Chicago Wolves in the American Hockey League and the Dallas Stars and the St. Louis Blues in the National Hockey League.

Unfortunately, at the age of 38, he breathed his last breath on April 10, 2023, because of a heart attack. At the time of his demise, Raymond was playing a recreational hockey game for the Richmond Cowboys.

According to a GoFundMe page, created by somebody close to the family, Raymond reportedly passed away on the ice “while playing the game he was passionate about” just outside Vancouver.

He died due to a heart attack while playing hockey for the Richmond Cowboys.

Sawada began his professional hockey career with the Dallas Stars in the second round of the NHL Entry Draft in 2004, and his journey eventually took him to Europe. Over three years, he appeared in 11 NHL games for Dallas.

Raymond had been a member of the Burnaby Fire team since 2017, having transitioned into firefighting after retiring from the professional hockey scene.

Moreover, he was a blooming bright light in all the lives he touched. He loved going places with his wife Nicole, the girls, and his loved ones.

Sawada was a skilled hockey player and a dedicated coach for his two daughters. Every action Ray took was motivated and driven with passion, and his passing will leave an empty space in the neighborhood.
