Reddit Update: Mike Holmes Jail Rumors Debunked
The Company called The Holmes Group, owned by TV personality Mike Holmes, is facing a lawsuit.
It is accused of promoting homes with defects under Mike’s ‘Holmes approved Homes’ program.
The firm is alleged to be involved in developing and promoting over a dozen houses in Meaford, Ontario, which homeowners claim have “numerous deficiencies.”
In 2016, Andrea Hart and Myles Johnson of Toronto, who were seeking a place to retire, bought a House. “We trusted the name,” said Andrea, 65. “A Mike Holmes-approved home.”
Mike helped promote the development, TerraceWood, including appearing on a billboard in Meaford, praising the builder in a YouTube video, and making visits.
A statement obtained by CTV News Toronto lists The Holmes Group among about a dozen parties involved in the housing development.
The $8-million lawsuit filed was made by Tarion, a consumer protection organization, in December 2021.
It alleges Third Line Homes of building properties where owners suffered from several deficiencies like leakages, mold, and structural flaws.
Third Line Homes‘ principals and officers, Mary-Jo and Paul Osbornof, are also named in the lawsuit.
Tarion also alleges that the Company failed to fix the defects or process warranty claims. It says it has been paying for the repairs out of pocket.
The homes in question are on Gordan Crescent in Meaford, a Georgian Bay community 100km northwest of Barrie.
None of the allegations have been proven in court. So, no charges or arrests have been made to date.
