Madoc, whose husband was the Actor Philip Madoc, died on Friday after having to withdraw from the pantomime Aladdin at the Princess Theatre in Torquay due to a fall.

Madoc’s Instagram account posted a statement on December 8 confirming that she had fallen earlier in the week and could no longer participate in the production.

Madoc underwent surgery and passed away the next day at 79 in the hospital.

She was referred to as a “special talent admired by many” by Phil Belfield of the talent agency Belfield & Ward Ltd.

He paid homage to her “iconic” television performance as Gladys Pugh in the comedy Hi-de-Hi! from the 1980s, which was set in a summer camp in the late 1950s.

In an Instagram tribute, screenwriter Russell T Davies hailed her as “funny, loving, salty, sharp, and charmingly uncynical.”

She was “one of those wonderful old troupers who loved the business, loved the stories, loved performing and performers,” according to the Doctor Who writer, and It’s A Sin creator.
