Sam Burgess was born in Liversedge, Kirklees, West Yorkshire, England, on December 14, 1988.
His late Father, Mark Burgess, was a rugby league footballer who played for Nottingham City, Rochdale Hornets, Dewsbury and Hunslet.
His mother, Julie, is a teacher at The Scots College in Bellevue Hill, Sydney. Luke, his older brother, and Tom and George, his younger twin brothers, are all professional rugby league footballers.
Heckmondwike Grammar School was where he went to school. He played junior rugby for Hunslet Parkside, Dewsbury Moor, and Liversedge Cricket Club.
He married Phoebe Hooke in a lavish ceremony at her parent’s estate in New South Wales Southern Highlands in December 2015.
