Senzo Robert Meyiwa was born to his parents, Samuel and Nombifuthi Meyiwa. He was married to Nombifuthi Meyiwa, with whom he shared a daughter named Nana Meyiwa.

Senzo Meyiwa Trial: Who Killed South African Footballer? Case Update

Five men are being tried for the killing of Senzo Meyiwa in October 2014. They were charged with ****** and other charges but have pleaded not guilty and denied involvement.

The five accused individuals are Bongani Sandiso Ntanzi, Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya, Mthokoziseni Maphisa, Sifokuhle Ntuli, and Mthobisi Mncube.

They are facing charges of attempted ******, ******, robbery, possessing an unlicensed firearm, and possessing ammunition.

The case is underway at the Pretoria High Court. During an earlier sitting of the trial, Tumelo Madlala dropped a bombshell by identifying Bongani as one of the men that had entered the House the night of the ********. 

Tumelo, Senzo’s childhood friend, returned to the witness stand on Monday for cross-examination. 

The best friend was grilled by one of the defense lawyers. They accused him of being evasive in his answers. 

However, the state witness told the court of memory lapse when answering most questions posed to him during cross-examination.

He is The State’s third witness and was present when the Bafana captain was killed.

Tumelo remembers hardly anything about the day his friend was killed. The one thing he did remember was seeing one of the accused, Bongani Ntanzi, in the House attacking the occupants.

He added that the suspect, on that day, was wearing a jacket with a hoodie but could not recall the specific color of the hoodie.

Tumelo is expected to return to the witness stand for further cross-examination.

It was initially believed that three people were involved in the fatal ******** of Senzo, and Police released images of two suspects.

One of the suspects, Zamokuhle Mbatha, was arrested on October 31, 2014. He appeared in court but was let go on November 11, 2014, citing a lack of evidence.

What Happened To Senzo Meyiwa?

South African goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa was shot and killed in a home invasion on October 26, 2014. The incident occurred at the Vosloorus House of his girlfriend, Actress, and singer Kelly Khumalo.

Efforts were made to save him, but he was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital in Johannesburg. The ***** sparked outrage over the country’s high ****** and crime rates.

To pay him tribute, the Soweto derby between his club Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs, set to take place November 1, 2014, was postponed.

Then-president Jacob Zuma mourned his loss and called for his killers to be found. Former FIFA president Sepp Blatter called Senzo’s ***** a “senseless, tragic loss.”

His Spanish counterpart Iker Casillas posted an Instagram picture of Senzo holding Casillas’ Real Madrid jersey that he exchanged during a friendly between Spain and South Africa.

A state funeral was conducted in Durban at Moses Mabhida Stadium on November 1, attended by his fans, friends, colleagues, officials, and politician dignitaries.

Senzo was laid to rest in Chesterville, KwaZulu-Natal.
