Shania Twain was born Eilleen Regina Edwards on August 28, 1965, in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, to Clarence Edwards and Sharon Morrison.
Twain has two siblings, Jill and Carrie Ann, born to her parents. However, her parents divorced when she was just two.
After the divorce, her mother, Sharon, moved with her daughters to Timmins, Ontario. She married Jerry Twain, and they had a son Mark.
Jerry Twain adopted the girls and legally changed their surname to Twain. She was raised with her sisters and half-brother.
Shania recalled having a great relationship with Jerry and refused to acknowledge Clarence as her father.
Twain’s first marriage was with Robert John “Mutt” Lange, a music producer. Mutt heard her original songs from her debut album and wanted to produce music for her.
They first met in June 1993 at Nashville’s Fan Fair and instantly fell in love, getting married on December 28, 1993. The couple is the parents of a son, Eja, born in August 2001.
However, the two separated after Robert had an affair with Marie-Anne Thiébaud, Shania’s best friend. They divorced on June 9, 2010.
Some months later, in December 2010, it was announced that Shania and Swiss Nestlé executive Frédéric Thiébaud got engaged.
The announcement was quite ironic, as Frédéric was Marie-Anne’s former husband. Shania and Thiébaud married on New Year’s Day 2011 in Rincón, Puerto Rico.
