Ralph Yarl was trying to collect his brothers and mistakenly rang Lester’s doorbell in the Northland suburb of Kansas City.
A 16-year-old Yarl went to Andrew Lester’s house in a Northland suburb of Kansas City by mistake and got seriously injured after a violent incident.
According to the police, Yarl was trying to collect his brothers from home on Northeast 115th Terrace in Missouri but went to Northeast 115th Street instead.
A witness reported to the police that a vehicle entered Mr. Lester’s driveway around 9:30 pm, according to court documents.
Mr. Lester told investigators he had just laid down when he heard the doorbell ring.
He picked up a .32 pistol and opened the interior door of his house, claiming that he saw a Black male pulling on the exterior door and believed he was trying to break in.
He claimed he was “scared to *****” of the boy’s size and could not defend himself due to his old age.
According to the documents, Mr. Lester fired twice without exchanging words with the victim.
During an informal police interview at Children’s Mercy Hospital, Ralph denied pulling the door and said he was waiting outside.
The teenager told investigators that a man opened the door and immediately shot him, causing him to fall to the ground, where he was shot for a second time.
Ralph claimed that the man said, “Don’t come around here.”
After the ********, Ralph managed to stumble away to other homes in the neighborhood for help and was quickly taken to the hospital.
On Monday, Yarl was released from the hospital to recover at home from his injuries.
