Sian Welby Parents: How Her Dad Overcame Multiple Health Challenges?
Sian Welby’s father, Ian, is 84 years old and has been through many health issues in the past few years. He was diagnosed with cancer in 2019 and had to undergo chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
He also contracted Covid-19 in 2020 and was so ill that he lost a lot of weight and his memory deteriorated.
The doctors thought he had advanced dementia and would be bedridden, but Sian and her family refused to give up on him.
Sian told The Sun in 2022: “He went so downhill in such a short amount of time the doctors thought he had advanced dementia and would be bedridden.
We had to tell them, ‘No!’ He wasn’t like this at all before!” She added that her father couldn’t believe that celebrities like Amanda Holden and Emma Bunton sent him well-wishes.
Thankfully, Ian recovered from Covid-19 and regained his strength and memory.
However, he was later diagnosed with vascular dementia, a common type of dementia caused by reduced blood flow to the brain.
Sian revealed this on This Morning on Tuesday (January 2023) during a segment on the condition.
She said: “My father’s going through it; he is diagnosed with vascular dementia. You are scared to lose a person close to you, it is quite frightening!”

Sian also expressed her uncertainty about whether she would want to take a test to know if she could be susceptible to dementia herself.
She said: “I don’t know if I want to know, is ignorance bliss? But then again, if I could do something about it?”
Despite the challenges, Sian has shown her love and admiration for her dad on social media.
She posted a picture of him on Father’s Day in 2023 and wrote: “Happy Father’s Day to my amazing dad who has been through so much but still manages to smile every day.”
Sian Welby Family: A Mix of Irish and English Heritage
Sian Welby was born in Nottingham, England, on September 3, 1986. She was raised in Upton, a village in Nottinghamshire, along with her two brothers and two sisters.
The TV personality’s mother is a nurse, and her dad is a traveling salesman. Sian has revealed that she has Irish roots from her father’s side of the family.
She told The Irish Post in 2019: “My dad’s side are all Irish – his mum was from Dublin and his dad was from Cork.”
She also said that she visited Ireland frequently as a child and felt a connection with the country. Sian also has some English heritage from her mother’s side of the family.
She told The Sun in 2022: “My mum’s side is all English – my great-grandad was one of the first people to fly over Mount Everest.”
