Ivete and Sindoval Nunes are the accomplished professional fighter Amanda Nunes’ parents. Amanda was born on 30 May 1988, making her 35-year-old, as of 2023.

The MMA artist grew up with her two sisters, Valdirene and Vanessa Nunes, in Pojuca, a small town outside Salvador, Bahia, Brazil.

Sadly, her mom and dad went their separate ways when she was four years old. Thus, Amanda’s mother alone raised her together with her two sisters.

Despite being a single parent, Ivete managed to provide for Amanda and her sisters by selling candies, hotdogs, and cosmetic supplies. The MMA fighter described her mother as a loving but strict parent.

Moreover, Amanda initially aspired to become a professional soccer player. The UFC Women’s Featherweight Champion joined the Vitoria Football Club after playing for the Pojuca and Salvador teams while still in elementary school.

Her mom, however, had different views and advised her to concentrate on her education. The mother of Amanda Nunes often trained in boxing. Also, her uncle competed in Vale Tudo.

Nunes went to training with her mother when she was five years old. Later, she participated in capoeira, and at age seven, she began training in karate.

Furthermore, Amanda began learning Brazilian jiu-jitsu at the age of 16. By the age of 17, she relocated to Salvador to enroll at the Edson Carvalho Academy and started learning judo and mixed martial arts.

Meet Amanda Nunes Sisters: Valdirene and Vanessa Nunes

As mentioned above, Amanda Nunes has two sisters, Valdirene and Vanessa. When she moved to Salvador, her sister Vanessa was already living there and was training in jiu-jitsu.

It has been reported that the two-time UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion’s sister has a key role in showing Nunes to the world of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

The Nunes sister shares a close-knitted bond and highly support one another’s careers. In an interview, Amanda’s Valdirene disclosed they have been supporting them from day one.

Valdirene said their mom put Amanda to train when she was still young. Eventually, she trained in boxing and jiu-jitsu. Valdirene stated she and her mother believed in Amanda.

They knew that she had a bright future in the professional fighting world. “It is her destiny. I never doubted that she would become champion,” added Nunes’ sister.

Amanda also didn’t disappoint her mom and sister. She worked hard and is now one of the greatest female MMA fighters of all time. Nunes’ mom and siblings must be incredibly proud of her.
