The singer revealed his health issue in an emotional letter. “Dear Friend, there have been several rumors and press reached out. I feel it’s important to tell my own truth,” stated Steve.
Lawrence revealed his Alzheimer’s disease diagnosis. “It is in its early phases. I’m being treated with drugs by some of the best doctors in the field,” added the comedian.
“The early stages of Alzheimer’s disease are characterized by modest mental difficulties that may not be readily visible,” explained Steve.
The versatile artist also retired from his profession in the same year. Since his retirement, his media appearances have decreased significantly. As a result, his current health condition is unknown.

Born Sidney Liebowitz, Steve Lawrence is a native of Brooklyn, New York, United States. He was born on 9 July 1935 to Jewish parents – Max and Helen.
Lawrence’s father served as a cantor at the Brooklyn-based synagogue Beth Sholom Tomchei Harav. On the other hand, his mother was a devoted homemaker.
Steve went to Thomas Jefferson High School. The singer has been singing since an early age.
Moreover, Lawrence married his late wife, Eydie Gorme, on 29 December 1957. Their wedding ceremony was held at the El Rancho Vegas in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The couple welcomed two sons – David Nessim Lawrence (born in 1960) and Michael Robert Lawrence (born in 1962). David is an ASCAP Award-winning musician and composer.
