Summer Dashe illness took a toll on her for a long time. However, she has remained strong and faced the condition head-on.

Summer is a former news anchor, Journalist, and TV host. She describes herself as a storyteller and a communicator. Besides, she is a University lecturer and documentary producer.

After more than a decade in broadcast news, she delved into unknown territory with the U.S. Department of Energy. She was hired for the first-ever Energy cast, a monthly newscast demonstrating on-site work.

Summer reports on groundbreaking medical research, national security missions, and environmental clean-up. An Emmy award-winning Journalist, she also advocates for the Chronically ill.

Summer Dashe Illness: Is She Cured With POTS Syndrome?

Summer Dashe suffers from two chronic illnesses: Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) and Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS).

EDS is a genetic disorder that causes overly lax tissues and joints, whereas POTS stops one’s autonomic nervous system from working correctly. The body malfunctions whenever the person changes from lying down to sitting or standing.

There is no cure for either illness. Summer started developing the symptoms when she was 26, including blurred vision, memory trouble, inability to control temperature, tremors, lightheadedness, constant nausea, headaches, white skin spots, shortness of breath, fatigue, and more.

At first, she was terrified that if people in the industry found out, she would be considered un-hirable. But she grew stronger with time and had her motto of “I’m not dying, so I have to figure out a way to live.”

Shortly after departing from ABC’s WATE, Summer was asked to host a monthly medical show. She was thrilled to keep herself on television covering a topic so close to her heart.

She is an avid advocate of POTS and other chronic conditions; her advocacy and efforts have led to a regional Emmy nomination and widespread recognition.

Summer states she chose journalism as her life’s purpose, and her life chose disability advocacy as her purpose.

This diagnosis drastically changed her life and perspective. She feels honored to advocate for those who suffer from similar conditions by using her filming, writing, editing, and public speaking skills.

Summer Dashe was born and raised in Danville, California, United States, with her two elder sisters. Born in 1991, she is 32.

Her Father passed away from a heart attack three months before she married Jon Mayhall on March 26, 2022. In a moving gesture, Jon wore the suit her dad was supposed to wear that day as he walked her down the aisle.

Summer is of white/ Caucasian race and holds American citizenship by birth.

She attended Monty Vista High School in Danville, California, where she was a part of the National Honor Society, The Stampede Newspaper, California Scholarship Federation, Cheerleading, and Dance Team.

In 2013, Summer attained her bachelor’s in journalism from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. She was equally active in college and a member of Delta Delta Delta, SMU-TV, The Daily Campus, and RTDNA.

Summer has worked in several channels and shows, including Dallas Morning News, Cercle Social, KLTV, WPDE TV 15, etc.

She currently hosts WATE 6 On Your Side, a monthly health show highlighting the latest medical news and interviews with local healthcare specialists about available treatment options.

Besides, Summer is a Visual Storytelling and Communications Contractor at Navarro Research and Engineering and teaches classes in multimedia reporting at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
