Messi goals

Lionel Messi is one of the best players to step onto a football field. The Argentine is a prolific goalscorer and assists provider, but throughout the years, Messi’s goalscoring ability has stood out as his strongest suit.

The forward is only a few goals behind Pele for second place as the third-highest goalscorer in football history.

In addition, Lionel Messi holds other goalscoring records, including being the leading scorer in La Liga history and having scored more goals for South American players overall at the international level.

Therefore, it only makes sense as we examine Lionel Messi’s greatest-ever goals.

Despite having hundreds of goals to choose from, many consider Messi’s La Liga strike against Getafe in 2007 his best.

A Diego Maradona-like individual effort saw him dance past five Getafe defenders, who all ended in a helpless heap on the ground, before keeping his composure against the goalkeeper, sending him the wrong way, and slotting in coolly with a right-footed finish.

With this goal, he made himself known as a constant threat in the world and European football.

Albacete | La Liga | May 1, 2005

If his goal against Getafe is his best of all time, then his first goal for Barcelona, which he scored when he was 17 years old and unknown, is noteworthy not for its beauty but for its importance.

But even as a teenager, Messi exuded the poise and assurance of an accomplished football player. After his first goal was incorrectly declared offside, he didn’t let it affect his confidence.

A minute later, he grabbed Ronaldinho’s pass inside the box before volleying the ball over the top of Albacete goalkeeper Raul Valbuena from 16 yards. What a way to make your first impression on a club; the goal was a sign of the beautiful things to come.

Real Zaragoza | La Liga | March 21, 2010

He demonstrated his best abilities and methods in one tremendous, all-encompassing solo effort with his goal against Real Zaragoza.

He was in a league of his own after scooping up the ball from a tackle on the halfway line, dodging several defenders, sprinting towards the box, leaving another defender in a heap on the ground, and blasting the ball into the left corner, leaving his teammates dumbfounded and ecstatic.

Real Madrid | La Liga | March 20, 2007

In a great El Clasico match, Messi scored in stoppage time to steal a draw for Barcelona after Real Madrid thought they had secured the victory when Sergio Ramos headed in with 15 minutes remaining.

But Messi wasn’t about to admit defeat. The match began. When it seemed like Real Madrid was about to win the game, Messi controlled Ronaldinho’s pass expertly and fired past a helpless Iker Casillas to mark the first hat-trick of his Barcelona career in the grandest of fashions. He had already scored two equalizers in the thrilling game that ended 3-3.

Deportivo La Coruna | La Liga | April 29, 2018

Even if all of Messi’s hat tricks are exceptional, his three goals against Deportivo in 2018 ensured that Barcelona won the league championship firmly on their terms.

The first of the three is the most impressive; it was a first-time volley into the box that Luis Suarez parried, but Messi handled the finish and execution because it required some deft dribbling to set up inside the penalty area.

In the European Golden Shoe competition, Messi overtook Mohamed Salah thanks to these goals.

USMNT | Copa America | June 21, 2016

How do you break your nation’s record for goals scored? Of course, with a free kick that is arrowed. Messi chose to surpass Gabriel Batistuta as Argentina’s most effective shooter in this manner, at least.

With a little more than 30 minutes remaining, Messi stepped over the ball, peered at Brad Guzan’s goal, and fiercely blasted the ball into the top corner. It’s one of the best record-breaking goals ever.

Messi still holds many more incredible goals in his pocket.
