UFC Petr Yan Religion: Is He Muslim?

Yan, whose fighting monicker is “No Mercy,” describes himself as a “Russian, Orthodox Christian guy” and the rumors of him being Muslim are wrong. He is a devout and religious man who is very protective of his ancestral ethnicity.

Yan’s Chinese ancestry and surname have previously received little notice, despite Russia’s almost 200 recognized ethnic groups. Yet, ethnic Chinese are a rare breed. Yan’s Instagram post of a controversial Russian social activist, on the other hand, resulted in his being attacked online due to his Chinese ethnicity.

On January 16, Yan posted a video clip with the description ‘Powerful Words’ from a talk by Russian social and religious activist Vladimir Zhdanov to Instagram. Zhdanov compares Russian-born and migrant groups in the film, making disparaging remarks about the latter.

Since many internal migrants are members of ethnically non-Russian minorities and are not Russian Orthodox Christians, such views may be deemed discriminatory.

Heibati is a new Iranian MMA fighter based in the Russian republic of Dagestan. “But you are a Chinese and a Nazi,” a resident of Dagestan, a largely Muslim and multi-ethnic state, said in Russian.

Then-unknown Iranian MMA newcomer with two fights on his record was attempting to bait Yan into a profitable battle with trash talk, but it enraged Yan. Despite this, the Russians made no comment on the racial tone of the attacks.
