Jones was arrested on Monday morning, according to UVA Police Chief Timothy Longo Sr. He was charged with three counts of second-degree murder and three counts of criminal possession of a firearm.

Jones was moved from Henrico County to the Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail on Tuesday afternoon following his arrest.

He will appear in Albemarle General District Court on Wednesday for a bond hearing, per court records.

The most recent information was made public hours after University of Virginia head coach Tony Elliott described the previous 24 hours as a nightmare in his first public speech following the massacre.

Elliott praised his team and staff for pulling together despite the tragedy and being able to absorb the shooting. Elliott claimed that the group had motivated him to keep working hard. 

He added that staff members have made it their goal to ensure the team has all the resources required and that nobody is left alone.

The team’s pain is shared by many others, as seen by the press conference and the community’s reactions over the past 24 hours at UVA and in Charlottesville. Support has come from students, Cavalier supporters nationwide, and opposing teams.

According to a school spokesperson, UVA officials discovered the 22-year-old University of Virginia student failed to reveal his conviction last year on a minor concealed firearms offense. 

He is suspected of killing three football players and injuring two others.

According to UVA Police Chief Tim Longo, former football player Christopher Darnell Jones Jr. is charged with three charges of second-degree murder and three counts of using a pistol to commit a crime.

Officials have stated that the victims were shot and killed on and around a bus on the Charlottesville campus late on Sunday after returning from a school field trip. Jones was also traveling back from Washington on the bus.
