After taking off from the Venice airport, a plane crashes into the Gulf of Mexico, killing a woman and a child.

The bodies of a woman and child were discovered during the hunt for a single-engine plane that crashed in the Gulf of Mexico after taking off from Venice.

As per the Federal Aviation Administration, the plane departed Venice Municipal Airport on Saturday around 7:30 pm. Soon after, according to officials, it crashed into the gulf.

Authorities are still looking for a man in a plane crash that killed a woman and a child.

The Venice Police Department reports that the rental Piper Cherokee’s wreckage was found at around 2:00 pm, about a third of a mile offshore, close to the airport.

Venice Airplane Crash: How Did It Happen?

On Sunday morning, Venice Police and Fire responded to a plane crash into the Gulf of Mexico.

An overdue reported aircraft was discovered in the Gulf of Mexico after crashing almost 2.5 miles west of the Venice Pier, according to the Venice Police Department.

Around 2 pm, air assets discovered the remnants of a rented Piper Cherokee about a third of a mile to the west offshore. Directly west of Venice Municipal Airport, the plane was discovered.

The Federal Aviation Administration requested VPD to contact the Venice Airport about a plane that didn’t arrive on Saturday night, which led to the start of the investigation at 10 am.

The aircraft departed from St. Petersburg, but it never returned to Venice.

Woman And A Child Found Dead

About 2.5 miles west of Venice Beach, a recreational boater discovered a dead woman floating in the Gulf of Mexico on Sunday. Multiple agencies sent out marine resources to the area to search for the plane wreckage and any potential survivors.

On Sunday afternoon, divers from the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office discovered the body of a dead child inside the plane’s passenger section.

Venice Airplane Crash Case Update

A male pilot or passenger who was also in the aircraft during the flight, according to Police, has not yet been found with the wreckage.

While Police claim to know who was on board, they withhold their names until their families have been notified and officers have clearance from other agencies. Authorities will continue their search for the missing man until Sunday evening and resume as long as the situation permits.

Until family notifications and approval from other involved agencies, such as the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board, the Venice Police have not disclosed information on the occupants because the investigation is still ongoing.

The Sheriff’s Office, the Sarasota Police Department, the U.S. Coast Guard, the Florida Fish, Wildlife Conservation Commission, and the District 12 Medical Examiner’s Office continue to assist with the search and crash scene.
