Ian Tyson

1933-2022

In 1989, Tyson was inducted into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame. In 1992, he and his former spouse and singing partner, Sylvia, were inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.

In addition to receiving a Governor General's Performing Arts Award in 2003 and being inducted into the Alberta Order of Excellence in 2006, Tyson was made a member of the Order of Canada in 1994.

Tyson was raised in Duncan, British Columbia, and was born to British immigrants in Victoria.

Throughout his six-decade career, he produced over 35 albums and received numerous Juno Awards.

He passed away on December 29, 2022, at his ranch in southern Alberta, Canada, from difficulties with his deteriorating health

According to his manager, Tyson underwent primary treatment a few years ago, from which he never fully recovered.

In 2006, he suffered a voice injury following a demanding performance at a country music festival outside.

Throughout his career, he influenced several generations of a new country and folk musicians, and his influence is still felt today.
