Moreover, the disability rights activist openly talks about her life as a disabled person. The comedian joked that people generally get terrified when she enters the stage. Liz said some of her audience’s first thoughts are, “Is she going to be funny? Oh my God! Can we laugh at her jokes?”

While attending the University of Nottingham, Carr was active in activism, politics, and the rights of people with disabilities.

She gave up practicing law after receiving her degree to become a trainer of disability equality. The Silent Witness star has spoken at numerous rallies while fighting for disability rights in the UK.

Liz joined up with ADAPT in May 2008 to collect money for the organization and to denounce presidential contender John McCain’s opposition to the right of persons with disabilities to remain in their own homes.

Following the BBC presentation of Terry Pratchett: Choosing to Die, Carr took part in a Newsnight debate about assisted suicide that featured Jeremy Paxman and David Aaronovitch.

“I feel we have so undervalued – people with disabled and ill people – that I don’t think it’s in their best interests to enshrine in law the power of doctors to kill specific individuals,” she said in opposition to Lord Falconer’s Assisted Dying Bill.
