It made headlines when American tennis player Venus Williams revealed she had Sjögren’s disease.

A chronic systemic autoimmune disease is what doctors refer to as Sjögren’s syndrome, which is pronounced “Showgren’s syndrome.”

It occurs when the body’s immune system unintentionally assaults itself, destroying healthy tissues.

It affects various organs and is chronic because it lasts for a long time. Primary Sjögren’s syndrome is when it develops on its own.

Secondary or related to Sjögren’s syndrome is when it develops in conjunction with another autoimmune disorder such as lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, or systemic sclerosis.

There is currently no treatment for this condition.

Personal Life of Venus Williams

Yetunde Price, Venus and Serena Williams’s assistant and older sister, was shot and killed in Compton, California, in 2003.

The location was close to the courts where the sisters had previously practiced.

Soon after the demise, the Williams family released the following statement: “The ******** ***** of our beloved Yetunde has left us feeling startled, grieved, and crushed.

She served as our foundation and rock. She served as her sisters’ assistant, confidante, and advisor, and her passing creates an emptiness that will never be filled. Today is the most depressing day of our lives due to our extreme anguish.”

Venus Williams graduated from the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale with an associate’s degree in fashion design on December 13, 2007.

Following a diagnosis of Sjögren’s syndrome in 2011, Williams was forced to withdraw from the U.S. Open before her second-round match.

She changed her diet to a vegan one and cut back on calories and sugars after receiving the diagnosis to get back in shape.

Williams graduated from Indiana University East with a Bachelor of Science in business administration in 2015.

Through a reciprocal arrangement between the institution and the Women’s Tennis Association, which permits athletes to play tennis professionally while studying online, she started her studies toward the degree in 2011.
