Crosby was a legendary musician better known as a part of the folk-rock supergroup Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young.

He was the founder of two major rock music groups: The Byrds and Crosby, Stills & Nash. 

He appeared in the first five Byrds albums and produced their 1973 reunion album. The group had a massive hit with the 1965 cover of Bob Dylan’s “Mr. Tambourine Man.”

Widely known for his vocal harmonies, Crosby has contributed background vocals for artists such as Joni Mitchell, Jackson Browne, James Taylor, Art Garfunkel, and Elton John.

Crosby also had a successful solo career, with several hit albums such as If I Could Only Remember My Name, Croz, Oh Yes I Can, and Lighthouse.

What Was David Crosby Illness?

David Crosby died of an illness; however, the exact details of his death have not been released yet.

Until a further statement stating the exact illness and reason for his death is released, we won’t know the nature of his illness.

However, the folk-rock pioneer has had difficulties with his health and faced different health problems.

In 1994, Crosby underwent a highly publicized liver transplant, paid for by Phil Collins. He had used drugs and had an alcohol addiction for decades.

He had a long battle with hepatitis C, which caused his liver to fail. He also survived diabetes and heart surgery in the past. 

In an October 2008 concert, a thinner-than-usual Crosby announced that he had shed 55 pounds due to Type 2 diabetes and had to use insulin.

Looking at Crosby’s Twitter profile, one can see that he was active on the platform as latest as January 18.

That’s why his death has come as a surprise to many, as the 81-year-old was pretty much active on Twitter, with a series of tweets recently.

Some of his last tweets include Greta Thunberg’s detention, praising her bravery, and “Rampant self-interest “captioned to House Republicans Matt Gaetz and Marjorie Taylor Greene.

Lately, the legendary musician tended to tweet on almost any matter. He shared his love for the Beatles’ Eleanor Rigby and several retweets.

His representative announced his death via a statement. However, the exact reason for his death has not been released.

After retiring from performing live, Crosby had not made media appearances. He preferred to spend the last years of his life out of the limelight.

Tributes To David Crosby Across Social Media

Numerous musical artists have paid their respects to David Crosby on his passing.

His CSNY bandmate Stephen Stills took on Twitter to post his tribute to his fallen friend. He said he was deeply saddened and “shall miss him beyond measure.”

Another CSNY member Graham Nash, who had been estranged from David in recent years,  also took on social media to share his tribute.

Nash acknowledged that his relationship with David was volatile at times, but the only thing that mattered to them was the pure joy of creating music together.

Additionally, artists such as Brian Wilson, James Taylor, Mellisa Etheridge, Marianne Faithfull, Sebastian Bach, and many others paid their tributes to the late David Crosby.

Aliph Van Cortlandt Whitehead and Oscar-winning director of photography Floyd Crosby were David Crosby’s parents when he was born in Los Angeles, California, on August 14, 1941.

James Raymond, Django Crosby, Erica, and Donovan Crosby are his surviving children, together with his wife, Jan Dance.
