He started all 12 games in his junior year in 2011, securing a second-team All-NSIC South Division selection for the second consecutive year. This season, he caught 62 passes for 715 yards and five touchdowns and took up kick return (three kicks for 77 yards and one touchdown) and punt return duties (22 punts for 217 yards).

In 2012, Thielen took over as the leading target for Minnesota State’s passing ******, serving as the team’s starting kick and punt returner and helping the Mavericks achieve a 13-1 record and a spot in the NCAA Semi-finals. 

Thielen led the team’s receiving corps with 74 receptions for 1,176 yards and eight touchdowns, earning him a spot on the NSIC South Division All-NSIC first-team, the Daktronics Super Region No. 3 second-team, and the Don Hansen Super Region second-team. 

Thielen concluded his college career ranking highly in several receiving categories, including finishing second in receiving yards (2,802), second in receptions (198), and third in touchdown catches (20). Additionally, he recorded five 100-yard receiving games, including a career-best of 167 against Southwest Minnesota State in 2012.
