Before and during this season, Los Angeles looked into trading Westbrook, but they could not do so until this deal. Westbrook averages 15.9 points, 7.5 assists, 6.2 rebounds, and 41.7% field goal and 29.6% 3-point ******** percentages this season as part of a five-year, $206.7 million deal that will pay him $47 million.

After stating for weeks that they were not interested in pursuing a deal and did not want to use their remaining first-round picks, things came to a head on Wednesday night.

A move to the bench last fall resulted in minor improvements over the disappointing 2021-22 season. The Lakers, who are in risk of missing the playoffs for a second straight season, made Westbrook seem uneasy.
