Damar Romeyelle Hamlin was born in McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania, United States, to his African-American parents, Mario and Nina.
Mario and Nina were high school sweethearts who gave birth to Damar when Nina was a teenager of 16 years.
It was the start of their young family. However, things could have been going smoother than one would hope.
The family faced financial difficulties, and Mario Hamlin participated in street activities to break even.
It was a bad idea, culminating in him being caught and sentenced to 3.5 years in prison when Damar was growing up.
That left a teenage mother, Nina, to care for his little boy alone. She did what she could and handled the family.
When Mario got out of jail, he and Nina started a daycare Company and an office cleaning business.
They used the proceeds to raise Damar, and the young lad hardly lacked anything growing up.
With an eventual stable home background, the football safety rose through high school and college ranks and got selected in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Damar Hamlin Collapsed During A Football Game
On January 2, 2023, Damar Hamlin collapsed after tackling WR Tee Higgins, who rammed into him.
Following the tackle, Damar stood up, taking two steps backward before collapsing.
The incident happened during a Week 17 game of Buffalo Bills vs. Cincinnati Bengals on Monday Night Football.
Team trainers and paramedics quickly rushed to a motionless Damar. They placed him on a stretcher and took him off in an ambulance that came onto the field.
Most of the players from both sides came off the sidelines to stand or kneel around Damar.
First responders initiated CPR and used defibrillation on the footballer on the field for 10 minutes.
After giving him oxygen, intubation, and an intravenous solution (IV), responders transported him to University of Cincinnati Academic Health Center at around 9:25 pm EST.
Damar is reportedly in critical condition, having gone into cardiac arrest. Following the collapse, several NFL players, teams, and fans quickly offered their support and prayers on social media.
Tee Higgins, Ja’Marr Chase, James Franklin, and LeBron James were among those who offered best wishes to Damar and his family.
Fans gathered outside the University of Cincinnati Academic Health Center, where he was kept following his collapse. The lights on the Paycor Stadium were lit blue in honor of Damar.
