Ylan Mui was born to parents Bong Q and DanTam on December 24, 1980. She has a sister, Vy and a brother, Dan.
The Mui family is of Vietnamese descent. Her Father is a doctor, and he works at Memorial Hermann Northwest Hospital.
Early in the 1970s, while he was still in medical school and she was a law student, he wed DanTam in Vietnam.
Ylan’s Father grabbed the chance to attend Tulane University in New Orleans shortly after the birth of their oldest daughter, Vy. He had left his wife and daughter in war-torn Vietnam, where tensions were rising.
Her family lost their home when Hurricane Katrina struck in 2005 and made their home in New Orleans, where Ylan was raised.
