According to Bend Police Communications Manager Sheila Miller, an officer started corresponding online with Reynolds High School social studies teacher Edward Hernandez-Corchado a week prior.
Miller claimed that although the female officer informed Hernandez-Corchado that she was a 15-year-old girl from Central Oregon, the teacher kept in touch with her, made lewd remarks, and eventually made plans to meet up with her in Bend.
He planned to pick her up at Target at 8 pm last Friday and take her to a hotel.
Miller stated in a news release that Hernandez-Corchado “specifically traveled from the Portland area intended to engage in sexual conduct with a minor female.”
Police detained him as soon as he entered the store and took him to the Deschutes County Jail, where he was lodged on charges of first-degree online sexual corruption of a child, third-degree statutory rape, third-degree attempted sodomy, third-degree intended encouraging child sex abuse, attempted contributing to the sexual delinquency of a minor, and attempted luring a minor for sexual activity.
Miller stated that authorities think there may be further casualties.

He was charged with attempted rape, first-degree online sexual corruption of a minor, and attempted inciting child sex abuse after he was arrested and taken to the Deschutes County Jail.
Hernandez-Corchado, a social studies teacher at Reynolds High School, allegedly began communicating with an undercover Police officer who purported to be a 15-year-old from Central Oregon, according to Bend Police.
Hernandez-Corchado scheduled a meeting for 8 pm at the objective. Friday to transport someone he believed to be a teenager to a motel. When he got to the shop, he was taken into custody.
Officials from Bend Police said they think there might be additional victims.
