A year after his son Mark Buchanan disclosed the dementia diagnosis, Ken Buchanan, the first undisputed world champion from Scotland, passed away at the age of 77.

The heartbreaking information was released a year after Mark revealed that Ken had been diagnosed with dementia.

The Ken Buchanan Foundation announced on April 1 that Ken had passed away peacefully in his sleep: “It is with tremendous sadness that we have to notify you Ken passed away this morning.”

The announcement added: “Please allow the family some time to process this tragic news before making any further disclosures. Ken, a gentleman and one of the greatest athletes we will ever see, rest in peace.”
